E8s 2017 Recap!

Thank you to everyone who came out for E8s 2017!

Fifteen teams battled it out, and in a kind-of-sort-of rematch from last year, Sports Fans (Phoenix Ultimate?) pulled off the upset and took the title away from Banana Cutters. Though they lost a nail-biter of a semi-final to Banana Cutters (a time-out, a contested goal-line stall, far too many layouts...), the Protectors of the Human Race rebounded to not only take third place, but also win the Spirit Prize!

We raised $3600 (up $300 from last year's record!!!), meaning each of the three selected charities will be receiving $1180!

The tournament results:

Winner: Sports Fans (Donating to the The Art Hawkins Development Fund)
Spirit Winner: Protectors of the Human Race (Donating to Wildlife Rescue Society of BC)
A-Pool Runner up: Banana Cutters
B-Pool Winner: I need more time!
C-Pool Winner: Azure D

The remaining 1/3rd of the funds raised went to the TDs charity of choice, which this year is the Helping Spirit Lodge Society.

Photos from this year's tournament will be available soon here or in the viewer on the About E8s page.

This year was the last year Rob and Marta ran the tournament (Kat, our co-TD, retired in 2016), which means there will be a changing of the guard in 2017. We are very pleased to welcome Steven Lane and Sarah Truong as E8s TDs in 2018, and hopefully beyond!

Thank you to everyone who helped to make this year's tournament happen - the teams, the VUL for providing endless support (and free fields!), our sponsors who donated prize items (the VUL, Five Ultimate, Jointworks Chiropractic and HUB Cycling).

We also want to give an extra-special thank you to our volunteers (Steve, Sarah, Kyle, Jevon, Kandrew, Justin, Jordan, Tyler, Mabel, Evan, Ryan, Kristie, Monica, Jaclynn, Agnes, Lucas) - who busted their butts to make the day the success it was.

We hope to see you all again in 2018!
